Taiwan finishes second in women's junior Asian field hockey event

Taipei, Oct. 21 (CNA) Taiwan bagged silver at the 2022 Women's Junior Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Cup in Kazakhstan after losing 7-2 to the hosts in Thursday's final.

Taiwan's head coach Tsai Ming-heng (蔡明恒) called it an honor to finish second in the tournament, saying it reflected the results of the hard work the players put into preparation and training and the dedication of the coaching staff.

Taiwan was undefeated as it entered the final of the nine-day field hockey tournament, in which Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Tajikistan, and Hong Kong also competed.

It swept the other teams in round robin play, defeating Uzbekistan 4-1 on Oct. 12, Tajikistan 22-0 on Oct. 13, Kazakhstan 2-0 on Oct. 15, Indonesia 4-1 on Oct. 17, and Hong Kong 5-2 on Oct. 19. to meet the hosts in the final.

Kazakhstan finished second in the group with a 4-1 record but rebounded in the final to defeat Taiwan.

Despite the defeat, Taiwan's Wang Yu-chin (王語裘) and Huang Yi-chun (黃怡君) were named the best player and top scorer of the tournament, respectively.

A Special Recognition Award was also presented to the Taiwan team for their exceptional effort and contribution to the development of women's field hockey, the Asian Hockey Federation said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan defeated Indonesia 2-1 to finish third.

The tournament was founded in 2003 and has been played a total of six times, of which Taiwan has won three.
