Taipei, Nov. 18 (CNA) One of the attending booths that drew attention on the opening day of the 2022 Taiwan International Coffee Show was a special exhibit by the Central American Trade Office (CATO) set up to showcase coffee beans from Belize, Guatemala and Honduras.

The CATO exhibit was one of more than 100 displays featuring coffee businesses and coffee bean brands eager to pitch their products at the four-day trade show, being held between Nov. 18 and Nov. 21 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Hall.

According to CATO, Taiwan's Central American allies see the local coffee market as having considerable potential, and its presence at the show is aimed at building up their share of the local coffee market.

Its booth is manned by the 12 Taiwanese importers of coffee products from Honduras, Guatemala, and Belize and by nine representatives of coffee and cocoa businesses from the three countries looking for opportunities in Taiwan.

To draw attention to its display, CATO invited Taiwanese barista Berg Wu (吳則霖), winner of the World Barista Championship in Dublin in 2016, to make coffee for visitors to the exhibit.

Wu also made coffee with Vice Foreign Minister Alexander Yui (俞大㵢) and Juan Luis Barrios, president of the international coffee organization Specialty Coffee Association, for the ambassadors to Taiwan from Honduras, Belize and Guatemala.
