Taiwan to remove weekly arrival cap on Dec. 10

Taipei, Nov. 28 (CNA) Taiwan will remove its current weekly cap on visitors from abroad on Dec. 10 as COVID-19 cases in the country are now under stable control, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Monday.

Currently, Taiwan still maintains a weekly arrival limit of 150,000 foreign visitors.

The cap will be raised on Dec. 1 to 200,000, followed by complete removal of the limit on Dec. 10, according to the CECC.

Imported COVID-19 cases in the week of Nov. 21-27 totaled 281, which is a 12.2-percent decrease from the week before, the CECC said.

Taking into consideration the decrease in the number of imported cases as well as the consistent drop in domestic cases, the CECC said it had decided to remove the weekly cap to accommodate the amount of prospective travelers coming to and leaving from Taiwan during the upcoming New Year and Lunar New Year holidays.
