Taipei, Dec. 30 (CNA) Those hailing a cab from taxi stands at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport during the extended Lunar New Year holiday from Jan. 19-29, 2023, will need to pay a NT$100 (US$3.26) surcharge, the Taoyuan City government said Friday.
For regular taxi services in Taoyuan during the period, a surcharge of NT$50 will apply, it said in a press release.
Currently, the basic taxi fare in the city stands at NT$90 (within 1.25 kilometers), with payment increments of an additional NT$5 every 200 meters or every 80 seconds when the taxi travels at 5 kilometers per hour and below.
In addition to the NT$100, people taking taxis from the airport will still have to pay an additional charge of 15 percent of the basic fare.
Similar Lunar New Year taxi fare increases will take place across Taiwan. For instance, an additional NT$30 will be charged per ride from Jan. 17-29 in Taipei, New Taipei and Keelung.
