Taipei, Jan. 7 (CNA) Renowned master of traditional glove puppetry Huang Chun-hsiung (黃俊雄), violinist Li Shu-de (李淑德) and theater performance arts educator Wu Jing-jyi (吳靜吉) were announced as winners of the 42nd National Cultural Award, by the Executive Yuan on Saturday.
Culture Minister Lee Yung-te (李永得) congratulated the winners, saying they all deserve their award having made a profound contribution to the culture of Taiwan and its promotion.
Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) will present the winners with medals, certificates and cash prize at an upcoming ceremony.
Born in 1933, Huang is a pioneer who took Taiwan's traditional glove puppetry from stage to television in the 1970s.
Li is hailed as the mother of Taiwan's violin scene. To date the most prestigious of her many awards is the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon which she received from President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) in 2017.
Meanwhile, Wu is one of the founders of Taiwan's prestigious Lanlin Theatre Troupe who dedicated his life to educating and cultivating local talent in the art of theater and stage.
The National Cultural Award is Taiwan's highest cultural accolade presented by the government.
The award was designed to acknowledge the contributions of individuals to Taiwan's fine and performance arts.
Candidates are first nominated and then vetted by a panel of three judges before being shortlisted by a review committee.
