Taiwanese sports shooter Wu Chia-ying (吳佳穎) snagged a silver medal for Taiwan at the ISSF Grand Prix 10m in Ruše, Slovenia after she was outscored by Hungarian Veronika Major in the women's air pistol gold medal match on Friday.
Competing for Taiwan under "Chinese Taipei," Wu, who competed at the Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro Olympics, shot a total score of 13 and had to settle for silver as Major took gold in the match with a score of 17.
Wu said collecting silver in the first tournament of the season was still a good start to the year as she now tallies a total of three silvers and three bronzes in her career for both individual and team shooting events.
During the latest match, Wu found herself on par with Major after the first five shots, but she then fell behind in the next five shots, giving the Hungarian the advantage.
From there, Wu took the next four shots, cutting down the deficit to only 2 points. However, Wu failed to beat her opponent in the last shot and lost the match.
Earlier in the day, Wu topped the ranking match with a score of 251.1, while Major trailed with 246.2, as they qualified for the gold medal match.
Wu and Major also previously competed against each other at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi where Major pocketed the women's 10m air pistol gold medal and Wu won the silver.
The 2023 ISSF Grand Prix 10m in Ruše, Slovenia is held from Jan. 11-15.
