Taipei, Feb. 16 (CNA) Members of the public in Taiwan have donated more than NT$800 million (US$26.48 million) to a relief fund for those affected by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Turkey, the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) said Thursday.
In a statement, the MOHW said that donations to the government-established fund continued to pour in, reaching NT$801.6 million as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The ministry said that those wishing to add to the 150,464 cash donations received so far can do so by sending money to the fund's Bank of Taiwan account (003001727277).
Alternatively, they can transfer funds for Turkey from any bank branch into a Central Bank Treasury Department account (270750) or from any post office into a dedicated post office account (50269506).
People making donations from overseas can do so using a dedicated account (00709118680) at Mega International Commercial Bank (swift code: ICBCTWTP007), specifying the beneficiary and use as: "Ministry of Health and Welfare Donation A/C" and "Turkey Earthquake Project," respectively.
People donating through ATMs or bank branches should write down their name, phone number and address on the transfer slip and fax it to (02)8590-6065 or email a copy of it to 1988SW1957@mohw.gov.tw to receive a receipt, the MOHW said.
The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, which struck on Feb. 6, currently stands at over 41,000.
