The 6th Taiwan-Austria Economic Dialogue deepens bilateral economic partnership

The 6th Taiwan-Austria Economic Dialogue was held on March 14 2023 in Taipei. Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Chern-Chyi  "C.C." Chen and Head of Directorate International Policy of the Federal Ministry for Labour and Economy Franz Wessig co-chaired this meeting. Both sides exchanged views on customs cooperation, Industry 4.0, digitalization, and other issues.

After the meeting, the Taipei Economic and Culture Office in Austria signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Austrian Office Taipei that encourages startups in Taiwan and Austria to increase collaboration on industries and investment.

Deputy Minister Chen noted that the economies of both Austria and Taiwan rely mainly on SMEs. The MOEA will continue to help Taiwanese startups and SMEs with industrial upgrading, digital transformation, as well as strengthening their resilience and international linkages.

Head of Directorate Wessig pointed out that both economies are innovative and open with a strong standing in global supply chains. He also stated that growth, innovation, and full employment are the central goals of Austrian economic policy, which is built on a foundation of stability-oriented macroeconomic policy.

Deputy Minister Chen and Head of Directorate Wessig also attended the 13th Taiwan-Austria Economic Cooperation Conference, which was hosted by the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA) and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKO) on March 15.
