Taipei, April 7 (CNA) Taiwan's National Defense University (NDU) on Friday said its president traveled to Czech Republic in February to formalize a partnership with the university's counterpart in the Central European country, which could include joint research and regional security evaluations.

In a press release, NDU said it received an invitation from the Czech Republic's university of national defense, Univerzita obrany (UO), in February this year to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish an academic partnership.

In response, the university's incumbent president and former Republic of China Navy Commander Admiral Liu Chih-pin (劉志斌) visited UO in early February to sign the MOU.

According to UO's official website, the university's representative at the signing ceremony on Feb. 16 was its Vice-Rector for External Relations and Internationalization Libor Kutěj, a former deputy chief of Czech military intelligence.

Kutěj and UO's head, Rector-Commandant Zuzana Kročová, subsequently returned a visit to NDU in March, when they traveled to Taiwan as part of a delegation led by Czech parliament's lower house speaker Markéta Pekarová Adamová.

During the visit, Kutěj gave a lecture for high-ranking Taiwanese military officers on China's influence campaign in the Czech Republic over the last 10 years, according to UO.

NDU also said it will be co-organizing international academic symposiums and seminars with UO in the future to boost the knowledge and awareness of international situations and regional security of its students and faculties.
