Taiwan to hold international forum on gender equality in sports

Taipei, April 11 (CNA) The Taiwan Sport Forward Association will hold an international forum on sports and gender equality with the American Institute in Taipei (AIT) in May, the association announced Tuesday.

The forum, titled "Taiwan-USA Collaboration on Building the Asia-Pacific Gender Equality in Sports Exchange Platform," will take place at National Taipei University on May 5-6, the association said at a press conference.

In addition to AIT, the association said, the forum is also funded by the U.S. Department of State Global Sports Mentoring Program.

The platform consists of four topics -- "Sports Media and Gender Equality," "Sports Diplomacy," "Gender Equality in Sports" and "Sports and Education," the association said.

Several international experts will attend the forum, including Sarah Hillyer,director of Center of Sport, Peace and Society at the University of Tennessee, Professor of Juntendo University Dr. Etsuko Ogasawara, former head of media operations for the International Olympic Committee Anthony Edgar, and Carmen Pozo Rios, the first female sports journalist in Bolivia, the platform poster indicates.

The forum will also include a photo competition featuring pictures of women participating in sporting events, titled "Women in Sports International Photo Awards," with Edgar chairing the jury panel.

The forum has received over 1,300 works from 52 countries, of which 41.55 percent were by female photographers.

The Grand Jury Award, the biggest prize, will be granted to a professional female photographer, with prize money of US$7,000.

Submitted photographs will be displayed at the forum, the association said.
