With the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Taiwan Academy of TECO in Los Angeles, Enshia Li (李音希), a mentee of the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA), will translate a novel by Taiwanese author Yuan Chiung-chiung (袁瓊瓊), as part of the "Emerging Translator Mentorship Program (新銳譯者指導計畫)." This year marks the third time that Taiwan has partnered with ALTA to promote the program.

Li, an emerging translator and writer from Toronto, Canada, will undergo nine months of training with American translator Steve Bradbury, thereby enhancing the presence of Taiwanese literature in the world of English literature. The translated work is expected to be showcased at the ALTA annual conference during the autumn season.

Li graduated from Stanford University in 2022 with an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies and English Literature. She expressed her admiration for the author's subversion of traditional narrative techniques and her enthusiasm for viewing the contemporary world from a fresh perspective. Additionally, the novel offers inspiring topics for human exploration.

Yuan excels in portraying the meticulous minds of females, presenting new conceptions of love in modern urban relationship. She previously won the first prize of the China Times Literature Award and the United Daily News Novel Award. The novel that Li will translate this time is a collection of short stories that explores various topics including marriage, divorce, infidelity, desire, and online dating. The translated book, along with authors and their works that have previously collaborated with ALTA, will be promoted in North America.

Founded in 1978, ALTA is an American organization dedicated to promoting literature translation, boasting over 900 members from various fields, including freelance translators, practitioners working in academic institutions, and professionals in news and media agencies. ALTA hosts an annual conference each year, facilitating cultural exchange and understanding among international literary translators across different countries and languages.
