Artificial intelligence has been the focus at Computex Taipei 2023, Asia's largest computing expo, with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen hoping the country can position itself at the forefront of the next tech wave. Infection specialists at Taiwan's hospitals are chafing against an increased workload and its accompanying paperwork as the country undergoes a fourth wave of COVID-19 infections. And international activists have traveled to Taiwan to bring their decades-long protests against Formosa Plastics to the company's doorstep at the company's AGM. Also:
- Taiwan is making it easier for dependents of "high-level" foreign professionals to obtain residence in a bid to retain foreign talent.
- Temples in Taoyuan in northern Taiwan are working with a local campaign to overcome a taboo against people worshiping while menstruating.
- Taiwan has issued its first sea warning of the year as Typhoon Mawar approaches, but the storm is not expected to make landfall.
