On June 30th, the San Mateo County Chinese School at Burlingame held its summer camp closing ceremony outside the center at three in the afternoon.

Close to a hundred people attended the closing ceremony, an annual event that many partake in. The camp was hosted by the San Mateo County Chinese School with support from the Overseas Community Affairs Council(OCAC) and the Association of Northern California Chinese Schools(ANCCS).

VIP at the closing ceremony included Director-General Scott Lai of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Franciso, Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Culture Offices in San Francisco (Milpitas) Director Sophia Chuang, Overseas Chinese Affairs Council Commissioners Jenny Tan & Johnny Lee, ANCCS President Lisa Wang, ANCCS President-elect Serena Shan, Millbrae City Vice Mayor Maurice Goodman, Millbrae City Councilmember Anders Fung, and Millbrae Sister Cities Commission Chair Robert Gottschalk.

Performances at the closing ceremony programs showcased what the campers had learned and practiced all week: dance, Chinese puppet, Chinese yoyo, kung fu, drumming, and tongue twisters. San Mateo County Chinese School Principal Peter Yeh demonstrated his Chinese yoyo skills, and Teacher Carol Yeh danced with the students for every dance performance. A prize drawing was also held.

Director-General Lai told the audience that when Eastern and Western cultures meet, great things can happen. He encouraged every camper to play hard & learn with fun.  Director Chuang reiterated that San Mateo County Chinese School has over ten years of experience running its summer camp, which has been a great way to enrich the summers of overseas Chinese children. She emphasized that it was a great environment for cultural enrichment and space to better oneself during the summer break.

Congratulations to the San Mateo County Chinese School for yet again hosting a successful summer camp and closing ceremony!
