Lin Yu-tang (林昱堂) on Saturday broke Taiwan's national long jump record to win gold at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok.
Lin clinched the gold medal with a jump of 8.4 meters on his fourth attempt, a mark that also saw him smash Nai Hui-fang's (乃慧芳) 30-year-old Taiwanese record of 8.34 meters.
The finish secured Lin a berth in the men's long jump at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where a repeat performance of Saturday could see him in contention for a medal.
Lin's jump of 8.4 meters would have been enough for bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and is just shy of the 8.41 meter marks set by gold medalist Juan Miguel Echevarría of Cuba and silver medalist Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece.
