Taipei, July 20 (CNA) Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced Wednesday it has pledged a donation of US$2.5 million toward the construction of a bridge in the war-torn Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.
The bridge will connect Obolonksy Island, a small island in central Kyiv, with the city, the MOFA said in a press release.
The pledged donation will be given to a charitable fund, Future Kyiv, the organization designated by the Kyiv government, based on a memorandum of understanding signed between Bob Chen (陳龍錦), Taiwan's Representative to Poland, and the head of the fund Mariia Bochenkova on Wednesday.
According to the release, the Greater Paris government has made a pledge of US$1 million toward the Kyiv bridge construction.
Taiwan and Ukraine share the same values of freedom, democracy and human rights, with both countries on the front line of defending authoritarian expansion, the release said.
Hence, the release added, Taiwan, along with other Western democratic countries, would continue to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine as its people fight against Russian aggression.
