The 2023 William Jones Cup International Tournament will take place in Taipei in August! After a blank of three years under the pandemic, the Department of Sports is once again joining hands with the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association to hold the renowned basketball competition at the Heping Basketball Stadium.
Marking its 42nd edition, the Jones Cup is an official basketball competition recognized by the International Basketball Federation. The event is one of the most well-known basketball tournaments in Asia, and many fans are looking forward to this year’s matches. Top favorites – including teams from Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines – will take part in the competition this year.
During his address at the press conference on July 26, Sports Commissioner Wang Hung-hsiang pointed out that the event has returned to Taipei after six years. With two teams participating in the men’s division and two teams competing in the women’s division, the city government looks forward to outstanding performances by local athletes at the event.
This year’s competition will kick-off with matches in the women’s division between August 5 and 9. The teams include Chinese Taipei (Blue), Chinese Taipei (White), Japan, South Korea, Philippines, and Iran.
Taking place between August 12 and 20, the men’s division features the local teams, as well as counterparts from Japan, South Korea, Philippines, UAE, Qatar, Iran, and USA.
