Taipei, July 30 (CNA) Taiwanese archers on Sunday clinched a silver and two bronzes at the 31st edition of the FISU World University Games Summer in Chengdu, China.
In the men's team recurve, Kuo Yu-cheng (郭昱承), Yang Zong-han (楊宗翰) and Chang Yi-chung (張譯中) placed second after a 0-6 final loss to Seo Mingi, Kim Pil-joong and Choi Doohee of South Korea.
Despite losing out on gold, the 18-year-old Chang said he felt satisfied with the outcome.
"[I'm] very happy to win the team event's silver medal with the seniors. This result is not bad because this is our first time [of the tournament]," said Chang, who graduated from New Taipei Municipal San Min High School in June.
Taiwanese archers also bagged two bronze medals in the compound women's team and compound mixed team, where Lin Ming-ching (林明靜) with wins over China in both third-place playoffs.
The 27-year-old Lin, who also won a compound women's team bronze at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Napoli, said the key to their success lay in their faith in each other.
"It would have been better if we had won gold," said Lin, adding that their goal coming into the event was the top three places. "They trust me through the process and I believe in them, too. [So I'm] glad to reach our goal this time."
Meanwhile, taekwondo athletes Hsu Yu-tse (徐語澤) and Huang Pin-chieh (黃品潔) grabbed a bronze medal in mixed pairs poomsae with a total score of 6.910, finishing behind teams from China and South Korea.
Taiwan has 210 athletes competing in 16 sports at the Chengdu Summer Universiade, which takes place from July 28 to Aug. 8.
