Washington, Aug. 3 (CNA) Taiwanese students won several medals at the 2023 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship in Orlando, Florida, including Chen Bing-hong (陳秉鴻), who took home US$8,000 with victory in the Microsoft Word (Office 2016) category.

Chen, a student at Yi Ming Senior High School in Hsinchu, was among over 190 competitors from 40 countries battling out at the Certiport-organized annual championships, which took place from July 30 to Aug. 2.

Wu Cheng-yan (吳承諺) of National Taipei University of Business, finished second in a later version of Microsoft Word (Microsoft 365 Apps and Office 2019), while Tsao Ching-chi (曹景棋), a student of New Taipei-based Chihlee University of Technology, won a bronze medal for PowerPoint.

Although Taiwan finished outside the medals in the championships' blue riband spreadsheet events, Yuan Tung (遠彤) of Taipei City University of Science and Technology managed a respectable 10th in the Excel 2016 category.

On behalf of Education Minister Pan Wen-chung (潘文忠), head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami Chou Chi-yu (周啟宇) congratulated the students on their achievements during the award ceremony on Wednesday.

Chou encouraged everyone to continue with their endeavors, saying that those who represented Taiwan at the annual competition are all regarded as winners.
