Taiwanese badminton players wrapped up the World University Games in the Chinese city of Chengdu on Monday by picking up the country's 10th gold medal.
The 10th gold medal was won by badminton players Ye Hong-wei (葉宏蔚) and Lee Chia-hsin (李佳馨) in the mixed doubles finals, defeating compatriots Lee Fang-chih (李芳至) and Teng Chun-hsun (鄧淳薰), who settled for silver.
In addition to the gold and silver -- Taiwan's 17th at the Chengdu Universiade -- Hsu Wen-chi (許玟琪) bagged a badminton bronze after losing to Han Yue (韓悅) of China 21-15, 21-15 in the women's singles semifinals.
All told, Taiwan's badminton players contributed two gold -- in mixed doubles and mixed group -- one silver and two bronzes -- in women's singles and men's doubles -- to Taiwan's total haul of 46 medals -- 10 golds, 17 silvers and 19 bronzes.
The other eight golds included five won by tennis players in the men's and women's team events, as well as in the mixed doubles, men's doubles and women's doubles.
Sun Chia-hung (孫家閎) secured Taiwan's first gold in Chengdu, in the category of wushu, on July 30.
Hurdler Peng Ming-yang (彭名揚) won gold in the men's 400-meter hurdles, while gymnast Lee Chih-kai (李智凱) took gold in the men's pommel horse for the third time in a row since the 2017 games in Taipei.
Taiwanese athletes improved on their results at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy, and had their second best showing in history after the 2017 Summer Universiade hosted by Taipei, when Taiwan clinched 90 medals -- 26 golds, 34 silvers and 30 bronzes.
Chengdu will hold the closing ceremony on Tuesday and hand over the games flag to Germany's Rhine-Ruhr region for the 32nd Summer Universiade in 2025.
