Taipei, Sept. 7 (CNA) Taiwanese weightlifter Chen Guan-ling (陳冠伶) won three gold medals at the World Weightlifting Championships in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
Eighteen-year-old Chen took gold in the snatch, clean and jerk, and combined lift categories in the women's 55 kg Group A division at the Riyadh competition.
In the snatch, the young Taiwanese achieved a lift of 91 kg, ahead of Rohelys Galvis of Colombia (90 kg) and Irene Borrego of Mexico (89 kg).
In the clean and jerk, Chen lifted 112 kg, ahead of Galvis who lifted 111 kg, and the 110 kg achieved by Rosalba Morale, who is also from Colombia.
Her combined total of 203 kg put Chen 2 kg ahead of silver medalist Galvis and 4 kg ahead of bronze medalist Borrego.
At the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) world championships, medals are awarded in the snatch, clean and jerk, and combined total categories.
The Taiwanese weightlifter, who graduated from New Taipei Municipal An Kang High School in June, previously set national records with each of her lifts at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in South Korea in May.
The world championships, organized by the IWF, is being held in Riyadh until Sept. 17.
