Taipei, Oct. 7 (CNA) Governor-General of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Susan D. Dougan will arrive in Taiwan on Saturday evening to attend the country's National Day celebrations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
In addition to taking part in the celebrations scheduled to be held in Taipei next Tuesday, the governor-general will also meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and attend a dinner hosted by Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) during her visit from Oct. 7-11, MOFA said in a press release.
Dougan, who last traveled to Taiwan in 2008 as a senior official handling education affairs, will also meet with Vincentian students in Taiwan and visit several attractions, such as the National Palace Museum, the release said.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines established diplomatic relations with the Republic of China, Taiwan's official name, in 1981, and is only one of 13 states to maintain ties with Taipei instead of Beijing.
MOFA's press release noted that cooperation projects in the Caribbean ally in agriculture, information technology, health, disaster prevention, women's empowerment, and education over the years had yielded fruitful results.
The release added that Saint Vincent and the Grenadines continued to staunchly support Taiwan's efforts to participate in international organizations.
