Taiwan finished with a total of 19 gold medals at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, which tied with the nation's best record that was set in Bangkok, Thailand in 1998 at the 13th edition of the games.
Taiwan, competing under the name Chinese Taipei, also won 20 silvers and 28 bronzes to finish with a total medal haul of 67.
In comparison, Taiwan took in 77 medals in 1998, consisting of 19 golds, 17 silvers and 41 bronzes.
While the record of gold medals tied with the nation's outing in Bangkok, Taiwan took three more silver and 13 fewer bronze medals at Hangzhou this year.
Of the 2023 gold medals, Taiwan took first place for the first time in a number of disciplines such as judo, canoe slalom, 3x3 basketball and Go.
A large portion of the gold medal haul was raked in by Taiwanese roller skaters, who bagged seven golds in addition to two silvers and four bronzes.
Taiwan's roller skating team and their coaches have also accumulated the highest amount of the nation's athletics awards, a total of NT$45.6 million (US$1.4 million).
Behind Taiwan's roller skating team is the nation's silver-medal-winning baseball team, whose 24 members will get NT$1.5 million each, which brings their team award to NT$36 million.
In accordance with the Regulations Governing the Issuance of Guo Guang Athletic Medals and Scholarships, Asian Games gold medal winners are each entitled to NT$3 million, while silver medal winners will be awarded NT$1.5 million and bronze medal winners will get NT$900,000.
Moreover, medal winners in sports like track and field, swimming and gymnastics will get an additional bonus that is 50 percent of their award.
Taiwan's Sports Administration said coaches of medal-winning athletes, on the other hand, are also entitled to achievement rewards, which total NT$44 million this year.
The administration said with Taiwanese athletes' achievements at this year's Asian Games, the total of the award that will be issued is NT$335.3 million.
