The Languages Connect Summit, scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2023, stands as a groundbreaking event in Modern Foreign Language (MFL) teaching and learning in Ireland. This summit delves into a spectrum of topics, from fostering learner engagement, exploring new teaching methodologies, to examining the application of new technologies in the classroom. With collaborative efforts from key stakeholders such as the Department of Education, PDST, JCT, COGG, Léargas, teacher colleagues, and Post-Primary Languages Ireland, the summit has attracted over 1200 educators, providing a unique platform for discussions and insights into the field of MFL education.

The Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese (DSMC), in collaboration with the Taiwan Centre for Mandarin Learning (TCML) in Ireland, proudly stands as a prominent participant among over 50 exhibitors. This diverse assembly includes embassies and language schools representing major universities across Ireland. The full list can be found here: https://ppli.ie/languages-connect-summit-programme/

Evan Furlong, OCAC Adviser, expressed gratitude, stating, "As an exhibitor at the Languages Connect Summit, I am profoundly thankful for the chance to spotlight our dedication to Mandarin Chinese education, particularly in traditional Mandarin Chinese characters. It is an honor to stand alongside esteemed organisations like The Teaching Council, National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), State Examinations Commission, Alliance Française Dublin, Goethe-Institut Ireland, and Instituto Cervantes Dublin. Participating in this event enabled us to connect with a diverse array of stakeholders, share our enthusiasm for language learning, and contribute to the broader dialogue on language education. We genuinely value the collaborative spirit of the summit and eagerly anticipate future opportunities for meaningful engagement and exchange."

During the event, Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese (DSMC) and Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) showcased the traditional way of tea, representing Taiwanese tea culture. Attendees were treated to cold brew tea and enjoyed mahjong bingo games, quizzes, and prizes, providing a delightful experience of Taiwanese culture. The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) sponsored Taiwan Formosan Black Bear tattoo stickers and Year of the Rabbit red envelopes.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Director Andy Bi and Assistant Director Marc Kai Tsou of the Education Division in the TRO UK for their generous support, and First secretary of the Taipei Representative Office in Ireland Christina Hong. A special mention goes to Lil' Tizzy Mandarin's principal, Yiting Chen, for sharing the Mahjong idea and providing valuable materials.
