Taoyuan, Oct. 27 (CNA) The first pet memorial park in Taiwan, called "Happy Heaven Park," opened in Taoyuan's Xinwu District on Friday hoping to promote animal protection and give pet owners a way to properly say goodbye to their pets.
Chen Kuan-yi (陳冠儀), head of the city's agricultural department, said the memorial park, the only legal pet memorial park in Taiwan, provided several services, such as pet cremation, columbarium spaces, and tree burials, enabling beloved pets to be treated properly after dying.
At present, three to four more service providers are applying to set up pet memorial parks in the city, Chen said.
Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng (張善政) said at the park's opening ceremony that more services related to burying and remembering pets will be provided in the future, in the hope that all pets can be treated properly after passing away.
The Ministry of Agriculture released regulations on setting up pet memorial parks in July, and Taoyuan's Department of Agriculture rolled out regulations related to these parks in August, leading to the creation of Taiwan's first legal pet memorial park.
