Hangzhou, China, Oct. 29 (CNA) Taiwan finished 13th among 44 countries and regions with four gold, four silver and 12 bronze medals at the Asian Paralympic Games, which was held from Oct. 22-28 in Hangzhou, China.
In particular, the table tennis team won a remarkable 10 medals -- three golds, three silvers and four bronzes -- with Lin Tzu-yu (林姿妤) alone clinching golds in both women's singles and mixed doubles.
With the singles' gold, the 23-year-old, who suffered a torn ligament in her right hand in a car accident while she was a junior high school student, also secured an early ticket to the Paris Paralympics.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old table tennis player Chen Po-yen (陳柏諺), who will also represent Taiwan to compete in the Paris Paralympics, seized a gold in men's singles and a silver in mixed doubles.
Taiwan sent a record-breaking 94 athletes to this year's Asian Para Games, competing in 14 different sports, including taekwondo, wheelchair fencing, and Go, where Taiwanese athletes made their debut appearances.
Taiwan also secured its first-ever medals in taekwondo, archery, and Go at the Hangzhou games. The country grabbed two golds, nine silvers and 14 bronzes in the 2018 Asian Para Games.
