High school students in southern Taiwan and across Northern California held an online bilingual conference on the evening of November 30. With the growing influence of Artificial intelligence in our everyday lives, the topic of discussion was “How Artificial Intelligence is Shaping Our World”.

Palo Alto Mayor Lydia Kou, Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Culture Offices in San Francisco (Milpitas) Director Sophia Chuang, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco Director of Education Division David Dong, National Pingtung High School Principal Kuo-Hsiang Chen. Cupertino-Taichung Friendship Cities Association (CTFC) President Weini Liem, and Chief Advisor Anita Fu all participated in this event to encourage the students.

The schools participating this time included National Tainan Senior High School and National Pingtung Senior High School. From northern California, there were Branham High School, Cupertino High School, Kehillah Jewish High School, Leigh High School, Lincoln High School, Prospect High School, and Valley Christian High School.

Thirty high school students formed six teams to discuss AI in transportation, the impact of autonomous driving, entertainment, catering, learning, and life. The forum was divided into two parts. First, students from the sixth team expressed their views on artificial intelligence in English. Then students from the sixth team discussed the use of artificial intelligence and their experiences in using artificial intelligence in Chinese.

This is the fourth year that the Taichung Friendship City Association has held an online bilingual forum for high school students from the United States and Taiwan. The students participating this time in the United States include students of caucasian, east Asian, and Latino descent. They worked hard to discuss and share their opinions with native Taiwanese students in Mandarin. Taiwanese students also used English to discuss their opinions and experiences in regard to using artificial intelligence. Before the forum between the two countries, students spent a lot of time to prepare.

During the forum, students explained their opinions in a lively and vivid manner. Both parties communicated harmoniously and learned from each other. After the forum, they also communicated with each other and hoped they could visit each other soon and better understand the cultures of the two countries.
