Hsinchu City's ocean management and land-based water garbage interception have been recognized as “excellent” for the 4th and 5th consecutive years respectively

The Hsinchu City government’s dual approach to protecting the water and land environment has once again achieved excellent results! Hsinchu City’s ocean management has been recognized as “excellent” for 4 years, and its land-based water garbage interception has received the same recognition for 5 years, setting a new record of consecutive wins. Mayor Kao Hung-An commended the Bureau of Environmental Protection for its dedication to managing the marine environment and land-based water bodies. She also thanked the ocean patrol team and the water environment patrol team for their selfless dedication to protecting the water environment. She hopes that they will continue to work hard in the future, practice green living and energy conservation, and create a livable and sustainable environmental home.

Mayor Kao expressed that to protect the precious marine ecology and groundwater bodies, the city government team is implementing a dual approach to the sea and land. For the maritime part, efforts include the ocean patrol team, the waste fishing net recycling and regeneration project, and the underwater net cover removal project, all aimed at reducing the burden on the ocean. For the land-based part, efforts include promoting river garbage interception, focusing on drainage from key tributaries, and installing garbage interception facilities to effectively control land-based garbage from entering the sea, moving towards a vision of green living and environmental sustainability.

The Bureau of Environmental Protection reminds us that the management of land-based water bodies and marine environments is a long-term task that requires cooperation among the public, enterprises, and government, balancing environmental protection, economy, and ecology. They also hope that citizens will pay more attention to environmental protection, starting from the source by reducing garbage, minimizing the use of disposable items, and refraining from littering. Only then can we eliminate garbage from flowing into rivers and oceans, eradicate marine waste pollution, improve environmental quality, and achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG6 (environmental quality), SDG11 (sustainable cities), and SDG14 (marine ecology), leading Hsinchu City towards a “healthy, safe, happy, and friendly” city.
