The collaboration between the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors in the San Francisco Bay Area (FASCA SFBA) and the Fast Fluency International Tutoring Program (FFITP) occurred on the evening of May 15.
FASCA SFBA students shadowed FFITP tutors during the tutoring session between them and the Taiwanese elementary schoolers from Luzhou Elementary School through English conversation and vocabulary practice.
Wang & Wu Foundation Academic Dean Katy Wu, Lead Teacher Nancy Lin, Student Teacher leader Audrey Wang, Luzhou Elementary School principal Ming Li Chen, as well as teachers Albert Wen, Monica Hsu, and Hsien Ming Hsien joined the online seminar. Director of the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices in San Francisco (Milpitas) Sophia Chuang gave a speech to show her appreciation for Wang & Wu Foundation’s FFITP program for its five years of operation of the program.
To accommodate the fifteen-hour difference between California and Taipei, the high school tutors from FASCA SFBA and FFITP prepared their course to be at such a late hour so that students from Luzhou could be tutored during their school day.
With over 45 participants, FFITP and FASCA SFBA members reflected and responded with feedback regarding the breakout room tutoring sessions that they participated in. The FASCA members were amazed at how despite being around the same age as them, FFITP tutors were able to smoothly deliver class content and bond with the elementary schoolers through virtual class.
