On June 29, the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors in the San Francisco Bay Area (FASCA SFBA) hosted a two-hour early career planning seminar at the Culture Center of Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in San Francisco (Milpitas). The purpose of the seminar was to help FASCA members with college and career planning. With the chapter located in Silicon Valley, many students are interested in going into technology-related careers.
Culture Center Director Sophia Chuang expressed how important it is to start planning early for college and a successful career early on. She applauded FASCA members for starting early and taking responsible steps to advance and improve themselves professionally. FASCA SFBA Advisor Katy Wu and Assistant Advisor Emma Wang emceed the event, introducing speakers Ginger Tsun and Allen Lee.
Speaker Ginger Tsun was a Director of Engineering at Yahoo, Intuit, LogMeIn, Claris(Apple) throughout her forty-year career. She spoke about personal experiences in facing adversity in the workplace, and how she resolved issues. Tsun placed an emphasis on finding creative and smart solutions to solve workplace conflicts. Since retiring three years ago, she has been passionate about helping youths succeed in high-tech. Speaker Allen Lee is CEO of American Portwell Tech Inc., with twenty-four years of experience reviewing resumes and conducting interviews. He spoke to students about his encounters in managing his company.
The highly anticipated workshop had nearly 80 attendees, the room full of curious young minds excited to absorb the knowledge and advice of the speakers. Due to the high demand for technology professionals and qualifications to have successful career paths, students learned how to stand out from Tsun and Lee. FASCA members learned about skills and classes that matter, as well as resume and interview strategies that would benefit them. The speakers gave tips and strategies on how to plan and apply to summer internships, as well as career planning. High engagement Throughout the seminar showed just how much the students cared about their future, FASCA seems to be nurturing motivated young professionals in the making!
