Taipei, Feb. 25 (CNA) The first group of lawmakers from the European Parliament (EP) visiting Taiwan in 2025 is set to meet with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and other senior officials during their five-day trip in the country.
The EP delegation, led by a vice-president of the Renew Europe political group, Ivars Ījabs from Latvia, also consists of Hannes Heide of Austria, Arkadiusz Mularczyk from Poland, and Vladimir Prebilič from Slovenia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday.
Aside from meeting with Hsiao, the EP members will also meet with other government officials, lawmakers, and local NGOs to exchange views on Taiwan-EU relations, geopolitics, and technological innovation, MOFA said in a press release.
The delegation is visiting Taiwan from Monday through Friday, it said.
MOFA said it welcomed the group's visit and thanked the EP for supporting Taiwan, including passing recent resolutions that raised concerns over China's escalation of tensions across the Taiwan Strait and expressed support for further deepening the Taiwan-EU partnership.
MOFA was referring to the passage of resolutions on Feb. 30 by the EP on annual reports on the implementation of the European Union Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).
