The National Museum of Taiwan History (NMTH) has partnered with Moonshine Studio (夢想動畫) to present a new virtual reality (VR) exhibition, “Seáhuán (出陣 西仔反),” which recreates scenes from the Sino-French War 140 years ago. In addition, they have launched an immersive trailer for the exhibition, available at Moondream Reality Immersive Theater in Kaohsiung City until Mar. 31.
To foster a deeper historical understanding of Taiwan, “Seáhuán” presents the Sino-French War from a Taiwanese perspective. Integrating oral history and historical records, NMTH reconstructs the conflict between the Qing Dynasty and French forces. Using VR technology, NMTH has traced military maps and transformed them into immersive spaces, offering a lifelike viewing experience.
Chen I-hung (陳怡宏), director of NMTH Research Division, said that this exhibition places Taiwan within the broader context of world history, aiming to strengthen visitors’ connection to Taiwan’s past and preserve historical memories through digital technology.
Wu Wen-chi (吳文琪), director of Moonshine Studio Interactive Department, noted that her team designed the exhibition with a chess-inspired concept to simplify complex historical events. Wu said that they hope to engage visitors across different generations by using technology and animation to make Taiwan’s history more accessible.
