Taipei, March. 8 (CNA) Taiwanese ultramarathon runner Tommy Chen (陳彥博) on Friday completed the Classic Edition of the 6633 Arctic Ultra, a non-stop 617-kilometer foot race traversing the Arctic Circle in Canada.
Chen completed the race in seven days, 23 hours and 19 minutes, behind British athlete Guy Belchier, who came in second place, and Australian Aaron Crook, who finished first in a time of seven days, 22 hours and 35 minutes.
According to the event's official webpage, seven ultramarathon runners competed in this year's 380-mile Yukon Arctic Ultra, which starts at Eagle Plains in the Yukon and ends on the banks of the Arctic Ocean.
The 38-year-old Taiwanese was the only Asian athlete participating in the Canadian Arctic race this year.
When he was in Taiwan in February, Chen said he trained hard for the race, and expressed hope that more people would bravely take action to pursue their dreams.
"When you put your heart and soul into it, you will be closer to achieving your dreams," he said.
The ultramarathon runner has completed a number of notable races in the past, including the 250-km Marathon des Sables race through the Sahara Desert in Morocco in 2023 and the 500-kilometer Montane Lapland Arctic Ultra in northern Sweden last year.
