The Taiwan Traditional Theatre Festival 2025, titled “within/out Boundaries,” is scheduled to take place from Apr. 11 to June. 8, featuring 11 exciting productions. This year’s festival will present two flagship productions: “Clan of Crooks!? Reincarnation Into Another World (轉生到異世界成為嘉慶君—發現我的祖先是詐騙集團!?)” by Ming Hwa Yuan Arts & Cultural Group (明華園戲劇總團) and “The Innocents (赤子)” by Taipei Puppet Theater.
“Clan of Crooks!? Reincarnation Into Another World,” based on the legend of “Lord Jiaqing and the Journey to Taiwan (嘉慶君遊臺灣),” blends contemporary theatrical elements with traditional Taiwanese opera. Ming Hwa Yuan Arts & Cultural Group merges the graceful singing, refined movement, and artistry of traditional opera with modern theater, offering a seamless journey between the past and the present.
“The Innocents” tells the story of Lu Ho-jo (呂赫若), a historic Taiwanese literary genius who became a political revolutionary. Drawing inspiration from a generation of Taiwanese talents, the plot reflects the futile uprisings throughout Taiwan’s history.
Chen Yueh-i (陳悅宜), director of the National Center for Traditional Arts (NCFTA), highlighted that the Festival is one of NCTFA’s most significant annual events. She noted that this year’s double-feature lineup was designed to highlight the rich essence of traditional theater.
