The Hualien AI Music Lab (花蓮流行音樂AI實驗基地) held an open sharing session on Mar. 14, inviting its operation advisor Li Jian-fu (李建復) and musical directors Ado' Kaliting Pacidal (阿洛．卡力亭．巴奇辣), Suming Rupi (舒米恩·魯碧), and Lim Giong (林強) to present their AI-assisted musical creations. These works were developed under four main themes inspired by Hualien’s natural landscape—“Whale, Sea, Flower, Bird.”
For this event, Li Jian-fu, known as “the father of folk music” in Taiwan, leveraged AI technology to produce the song “Stray Bird (漂鳥),” blending human and AI voices in a harmony. Lim Giong combined electronic music with AI technology to create an immersive audiovisual experience at the Lab’s exhibition hall, drawing inspiration from the ocean.
Ado' Kaliting Pacidal, an Amis singer-songwriter, composed “A Poem from the Ocean to the Island (海洋寫給島嶼的一首詩),” incorporating the traditional Amis call-and-response singing style, with herself as the lead singer and AI generating the responses. Amis singer Suming Rupi, inspired by the flowers in Hualien, wrote “If I Am a Flower (如果我是一朵花),” showcasing the unique voices of Indigenous music with the aid of AI.
Lee Yung-te (李永得), chairman of the Central News Agency and former Minister of Culture, also attended the session. He highlighted that the AI Music Lab was established to enhance Taiwan’s pop music through AI-driven innovation and push the boundaries of songwriting.
Deputy Minister of Culture Sue Wang (王時思) expressed her hope that the AI Music Lab will serve as a creative hub in eastern Taiwan, fostering original artistic production and sharing Taiwan’s music with the world.
