Taipei, April 17 (CNA) Taiwanese Cheng Tsung-che, the Pittsburgh Pirates' No. 17 prospect, has completed his first stint in the Major League Baseball after playing in three games over a 10-day period and has been sent down to Triple-A.
The Pirates announced on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday that they had optioned Cheng back to Triple-A as they had reinstated infielder Jared Triolo to the Major League roster.
Triolo had been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a lumbar spine strain.
Cheng was called up on April 7 to bolster the team's injury-plagued infield, becoming the 18th Taiwanese to play in an MLB game.
He made his debut on April 9 and went hitless in seven at-bats over three games, starting in two and playing one full game.
During Cheng's time on the roster, the Pirates went 4-5, and they currently sit at the bottom of the National League Central Division with a 7-12 record, trailing division leader Chicago Cubs by 4 games.
