Taipei, April 30 (CNA) A retrospective featuring the works of award-winning Taiwanese director Chung Mong-hong (鍾孟宏) will take place in Los Angeles from May 16-18, with Chung himself set to attend the screenings and interact with viewers.

The event hosted by American Cinematheque, an L.A.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to "film curation, conversation and presentation," with support from Taiwan's Ministry of Culture (MOC) will be held at two venues: Aero and Los Feliz 3.

It will showcase four films from the director's repertoire: "Parking" (停車), "Godspeed" (一路順風), "A Sun" (陽光普照), and "The Embers" (餘燼).

Chung will give an introduction to Godspeed before the screening of the movie at Los Feliz 3 on May 16 and attend a question-and-answer session following the screenings of "Parking," "A Sun," and "The Embers."

Notably, "The Embers," an innovative take on Taiwan's martial law era, will make its American premiere at Los Feliz 3 on May 18.

In addition, Chung will introduce "Stranger Than Paradise, the film that influenced him the most," on May 18 at Los Feliz 3, according to the Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles under the MOC.

In a statement, American Cinematheque said it is "thrilled to welcome the renowned Taiwanese director.

"Director Chung's oeuvre consists of genre-bending films distinguished by gripping plots, nuanced performances, and poetic cinematography. From psychological horror to crime saga, Chung explores the recurring themes of violence, memory, and reconciliation with a distinctive style," it said.

Chung has won five Golden Horse Awards, Taiwan's most prestigious film award and has been named best director twice by the jury for his 2010 movie "The Fourth Portrait" (第四張畫) and his 2019 picture "A Sun."
