Sydney, May 16, 2025— Global Federation of Chinese Business Women Sydney Chapter (GFCBWSYD) hosted its inaugural Charity Ball in grand style at the Shangri-La Sydney. The event brought together 30 GFCBW members from nine different countries, led personally by Global President Ms. Shu-Min Lin with the current president Ching-Mei Maddock were very trilled to welcome the guests of united leaders from the Australian political sphere and the local Taiwanese Australian community in a powerful show of support for the vital cause of domestic violence prevention.

Distinguished guests filled the venue, including Director-General Mr. Cheng-Wei Wu and his spouse from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Sydney; the Hon. Anthony Roberts MP, Dr. Hugh McDermott MP, the Hon. Scott Farlow MLC, Tim James MP, Monica Tudehope MP, Clr. Michelle Chuang (Willoughby), Clr. Barbara Ward (Ku-ring-gai), and Clr. In his remarks, Director Wu expressed sincere gratitude to GFCBW for its long-standing dedication to women’s empowerment and gender equality, as well as for bringing attention to the globally urgent issue of domestic violence. He highlighted Taiwan’s pioneering role in Asia through the implementation of the Domestic Violence Prevention Act in 1998 and expressed hope for deeper collaboration with Australia to build safer communities together. He also emphasized Taiwan’s growing positive impact on global society — a key reason for advocating its participation in the upcoming World Health Assembly (WHA) on May 19 in Geneva. Therefore GFCBWSYD arrange to present the Video of 2025 overseas communities promotes Taiwan’s inclusion in WHA, extremely efficient to demonstrate the vision of Taiwan Can Help to the local society and authority.

MP Anthony Roberts praised the spirit of the Taiwanese community, referring to them as “Friends in Winter” — always ready to extend a helping hand in critical times, exemplifying compassion and unity.

The charity ball successfully raised an impressive AUD $20,535, all of which will be donated to Women’s Community Shelters (WCS) in Australia. These funds will assist women and children affected by domestic violence, providing them with shelter and essential support services. Of course That night's successful charity event would not have been possible without the dedication and contributions of the GFCBWSYD team to bring people together whoever also make some effort to help others.

This landmark event not only showcased the Taiwanese community’s strong commitment to giving back to Australian society but also reflected Taiwan’s broader promise to serve as a positive force for good on the global stage.
