The “World Masters Games 2025 Taipei & New Taipei City” is jointly organized by Taipei City and New Taipei City with the guidance of the Sports Administration (SA). The opening ceremony was held on May 17 at Taipei Dome, with more than 25,000 athletes and accompanying personnel from 107 countries and regions participating. This joyful, carnival-style event marked the first time the World Masters Games (WMG) has been held in Asia, giving a festive and exciting atmosphere to all participants.

Before the opening ceremony, the “Masters Parade of Dreams” began at 5:30 PM on May 17. The parade route started in front of Taipei City Hall and ended at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. The parade featured over 10,000 athletes, team staff, and coaches, accompanied by performing groups and cheerleading teams.

The opening ceremony theme was “We share the same Sky”, symbolizing inclusiveness and unity. It also displayed the vitality, culture, and sporting passion of  Taipei and New Taipei. The performances blended traditional and contemporary music and dance, highlighting the cultural richness of Taiwan. The lineup of performers included Golden Melody-winning Indigenous singer ABAO (Abao), band Accusefive, the mother-son duo Billie and Nick Chou, street dance leaders Lin Gang-yi (Lin Geng-Hong), Ha Mei (Chou Pei-Yun), and Hsiao Chang (Hsiao Yu-Chang), as well as Cheerleaders from the Chinese Professional Baseball League and table tennis stars Chuang Chih-Yuan and Chiang Hung-Chieh.

The 2025 Games features over 3,000 events in 14 days of competition. It is Asia’s first WMG and the largest international multi-sport event ever held in Taiwan. The event will lay a strong foundation for future major events in Taiwan and cultivate professionals skilled in managing large-scale sports competitions. Except for events at the Taipei Dome and Taipei Arena (which require tickets), all other events are free. Tickets can be reserved here: https://reur1.cc/La2o13. The public is encouraged to attend and warmly welcome athletes from around the world.

In addition to watching the exciting competitions, the public can visit the World Masters Games Expo at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, which opened on May 10. The expo features themed zones such as the Masters Games Zone, Paralympics Zone, Sustainability Zone, Sports Industry Zone, and Interactive Experience Zone. Visitors can learn about the event’s organization, explore sports through technology and games, and enjoy 55 performances.

The SA has announced that the Ministry of Sports will be officially established in September 9 2025, marking a new era for Taiwan’s sports policy. The goal is to create a sports-powered Taiwan focused on equality, inclusion, and sustainability. This includes encouraging mass participation, developing the sports industry, and enhancing international visibility. Through branded events, cultivating global professionals, and expanding sports diplomacy networks, Taiwan aims to increase its global influence. The WMG2025 in Taipei and New Taipei City is not only a sporting event but also a global platform for culture, exchange, and sustainability. This historic opportunity will showcase Taiwan’s ability to host world-class events and share its hospitality, vibrant culture, and passion for sports with the world. Everyone is invited to join and cheer on the athletes.
