Through an exchange project supported by the Ministry of Culture (MOC), the National Museum of Prehistory (NMP) co-hosted a series of performance and lectures with University of Guam and the Guam Museum on June 10 and 11. Additionally, the NMP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Guam on June 10, further strengthening their partnership in academic research and exhibitions focused on Austronesian culture and navigational knowledge.
Tsai Cheng-liang (蔡政良), Director of the NMP, noted that the University of Guam plays a pivotal role in academic research in Micronesia and is a key partner in the NMP’s efforts to promote Austronesian culture globally. He emphasized that the signing of the MoU lays the foundation for future cultural and educational collaboration between the two institutions, reinforcing their shared commitment to supporting Austronesian communities.
Anita Borja Enriquez, President of the University of Guam, remarked that Guam and Taiwan share deep connections in Austronesian culture, history, and social development. She stated that the partnership will enhance bilateral exchanges, particularly in academic development, personnel exchanges, and the construction of online databases.
During the visit, the NMP also met with H. Larry Raigetal, Director of the Island Wisdom Program at the University of Guam’s Micronesian Area Research Center (MARC), gaining valuable insights into Micronesian navigational knowledge and traditional shipbuilding techniques.
