The Seoul International Book Fair (SIBF), the largest literary gathering in South Korea, is scheduled to take place from June 18 to 22, with Taiwan featured as the guest of honor for the first time. The National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL) will showcase a curated selection of Taiwanese literary works centered on the themes of “Nature Writing,” “Indigenous Literature,” and “Taiwan Literature Award Golden Book Awardees.” Additionally, Taiwanese authors will participate in various events throughout the fair.
The Taiwan Pavilion will feature 82 outstanding works spanning different generations, presented in Mandarin, English, and Korean, with a focus on the three main themes. Moreover, it will honor the legacy of Taiwan’s iconic writer Qiu Miaojin (邱妙津) at the book fair.
To further engage with local readers, NMTL will host engaging discussions led by esteemed Taiwanese authors Wu Ming-yi (吳明益), Ping Lu (平路), and Tung Shu-ming (董恕明). These talks will explore various facets of Taiwanese literature, inviting participants to reflect on its rich narratives and cultural significance.
NMTL noted that it is working with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency and the Taipei Book Fair Foundation to actively promote Taiwanese literature at the event. The goal is to foster international partnerships and highlight the distinctive qualities of Taiwanese literary voices on the global stage.
