Taipei, June 19 (CNA) Three Taiwanese universities ranked among the world's top 200 in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, released Thursday.
National Taiwan University (NTU) ranked 63rd -- its highest position ever -- followed by National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) at 176th and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) at 199th.
NTU earned an overall score of 78.9, up from 68.7 last year, tying with City University of Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, NTHU returned to the top 200 after falling out last year, while NYCU entered the top 200 for the first time.
Several other Taiwanese universities also placed in the top 500, all improving their positions from last year. These include National Cheng Kung University (203rd), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (345th), National Taipei University of Technology (420th), National Taiwan Normal University (435th), and National Sun Yat-sen University (439th).
Globally, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the U.S. has held the top spot for over a decade, followed by Imperial College London, Stanford University, the University of Oxford and Harvard University.
The 2026 QS World University Rankings feature over 1,500 universities from more than 100 locations, according to the QS website.
The rankings are based on five indicators: research and discovery (50%), employability and outcomes (20%), learning experience (10%), global engagement (15%) and sustainability (5%), according to the website.
