Los Angeles, June 26 (CNA) The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday extended invitations to 534 film professionals worldwide, including four Taiwanese artists.
The Taiwanese invitees are producer Peggy Chiao (焦雄屏), director Mong-Hong Chung (鍾孟宏), composer Wei San Hsu (許瑋珊), and editor Yang-Hua Hu (胡仰華), the Academy announced in its official statement.
According to the Academy, this year's new members span 19 branches and represent 60 countries and regions. Among them, 55 percent are from outside the United States, 41 percent are women, and 45 percent are from underrepresented communities in the film industry.
Chiao, known as the "godmother of Taiwan New Cinema," is a veteran producer and scholar. Her producing credits include "Blue Gate Crossing" and "Empire of Silver."
Chung is the acclaimed director of "A Sun," which was Taiwan's official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 2021 Oscars.
He is also a multiple Golden Horse Award winner and recently held a solo retrospective at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles.
Hsu, a film and television composer based in Los Angeles, recently scored the documentary "Invisible Nation."
Hu has worked across film, theater, and music videos. He received the Robert Altman Award at the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards for his work on the film "Mass."
