Taoyuan, June 29 (CNA) The Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions won their 18th half-season title in Taiwan's Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) with a win over the Rakuten Monkeys in Taoyuan Sunday.
The Lions resumed Sunday's game, which had been suspended by rain on April 20, starting in the fourth inning with a 1-0 lead. They scored a second run when the day's first batter, Chen Chung-yu (陳重羽), hit a ball caught by an infielder, allowing his teammate Lin Tzu-hao (林子豪) to advance from third base and score.
The Lions scored two more runs in the ninth inning to seal a 4-1 victory.
With 36 wins in the first half of the season, the Lions clinched their 18th half-season title, finishing two wins ahead of the second-place CTBC Brothers.
The Lions last won the half-season title just a year ago, but the Brothers took the second half and went on to win the Taiwan Series, becoming the 2024 season champions.
