On July 11 in Franklin County Court, our Taiwanese community stood united as 22 members led by Nancy Ho (何玉時), the President of  Columbus Taiwanese American Association, and Chi-Ling Cheng (鄭琦玲), the President of the OK Chapter of North American Taiwanese Women's Association (NATWA). They came together to support Alex Huang (黃丰Li-Chu's husband) and Kun Juei Lin (林坤瑞 Li-Chu's brother) on the sentencing of Arthur Scott—the man who brutally took Li‑Chu Lin's (林麗珠) life last April at the Double Ten Hotel in Columbus, Ohio.

Though most of us never knew Li‑Chu personally, we showed up because her death was felt by every Taiwanese American and every woman who deserves safety and respect. Our voices joined Alex's plea for the harshest punishment—four counts including aggravated murder, burglary, kidnapping, and rape—and Kun Juei's remembrance of a sister who spent her life caring for their parents and others. Alex spoke the hotel has a high-rise American flag. The flag is a symbol of success and their promise to make contributions to the society by sharing their wealth with families with autistic children. The defendant didn't just kill a loving, caring person but also has destroyed their business and shattered their American dream. When the guest found the gruesome killing and the guest's comment caused the suspension of Airbnb. Grace Lin (林麗芳), a friend of Li-Chu also spoke for the Taiwanese group to remind the Court we all have female friends, relatives or children and women should have been respected instead of being killed as this way. Violence against women must never go unpunished.

Judge Kim Brown could not impose the death penalty, but she delivered the maximum sentence: life without parole. May Li‑Chu rest in peace, and may our continued solidarity bring comfort to Alex, Kun Juei, and all who mourn her. We honor Li‑Chu's memory by standing together as good citizens—paying our taxes, building our communities, and living our American dreams.

NATWA OK Chapter and TAA Columbus members have shown their unconditional love and support to Li-Chu's family. While Taiwanese as a minority in the USA, we have shown our great support to the family and respect the Court's decision by continuously stay together for comforting each other to pay attention to your safety. Please shut the door before you leave the hotel room including before you are checking out the room. It will be the best for a female to go out with a person when checking any suspicious condition for our safety. We hope the killer is receiving the penalty in prison without hurting any others at our peaceful community while we all continue to be responsible and great citizens for our society. The local TV10 and Distacth news in Columbus, Ohio have broadcasted the following news for the community's awareness regarding this justice for the family.
