Taipei, July 25 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis players Li Yu-yun (李羽芸) and Lin Fang-an (林芳安) won a silver medal in the women's doubles at the 2025 FISU World University Games after losing the finals to a Japanese duo in the German city of Essen on Friday.

Li and Lin faced Oby Ange Kajuru and Kanon Yamaguchi of Japan in the finals, with each side winning a set before entering a super tiebreaker.

The Taiwanese duo opened the first-to-10 tiebreaker by winning the first three points but their Japanese opponents ran off eight straight points of their own and eventually clinched the match 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4).

The silver Li and Lin won was the only medal won by Taiwanese players in the five tennis events they competed in at the 2025 edition of the FISU World University Games in Germany's Rhine-Ruhr regions.

Taiwan took seven medals, including five golds, in tennis at the last Games in Chengdu, China two years ago, but did not take part in the men's and women's team events this year.

As of 8 p.m. Friday, Taiwan had won two golds, nine silvers and five bronzes at the Rhine-Ruhr World University Games, with the female taekwondo athletes competing in the team poomsae event and the men's table tennis team each winning a gold.

The biennial sports meet is set to conclude on Sunday after 12 days of competition.
