Taipei, July 26 (CNA) Badminton players from Taiwan secured three of the four medals in the mixed doubles event at this year's World University Games in Germany on Saturday.
Taiwan's Wu Hsuan-yi (吳軒毅) and Yang Chu-yun (楊筑云) took gold after holding off fellow Taiwanese shuttlers Chen Cheng-kuan (陳政寬) and Hsu Yin-hui (許尹鏸) in the event's finals in straight games 15-8, 17-15.
Wu and Yang kept their momentum after defeating Chinese opponents Li Qian (李茜) and Liao Pinyi (廖品逸) in the semifinals and brought their A-game to the finals.
While Wu and Yang's momentum was unstoppable in the first game, Chen and Hsu eventually found their rhythm and made a comeback in the second game, overtaking Wu and Yang at one point and earning two game points.
But Wu and Yang fended off the threat and rallied to take the second game and the match.
With Chen and Hsu's win, Taiwan won its second consecutive mixed doubles badminton gold at the World University Games.
Besides Wu and Yang's gold and Chen and Hsu's silver, Taiwanese shuttlers Lin Yu-chieh (林煜傑) and Jheng Yu-chieh (鄭宇倢) took bronze after falling to Chen and Hsu in the mixed doubles semifinals.
