The 36th Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music was held at the Taiwan Traditional Theater Center on Aug. 23, honoring 19 awardees. Minister of Culture Li Yuan attended the ceremony and expressed gratitude to these artists for their contributions to preserving traditional arts.
The Special Contribution Award were given to musician Chen Mao-hsuan (陳茂萱) and nanguan artist Linwu Su-hsia (林吳素霞).
According to the Ministry of Culture, Chen is both a composer and educator who has pioneered new approaches to composition by blending modern musical elements with traditional Chinese music. As an educator, he has devoted himself to transforming Taiwan’s music education system and improving teaching materials.
Linwu has dedicated her life to the transmission of nanguan. Over her nearly six-decade career, she has served as both performer and teacher, actively promoting the art form in numerous clubs and schools across the country. In recent years, she has also worked to archive nanguan materials and data, and has published books such as “Nanguan Music Appreciation (南管音樂賞析)” and “Linwu Su-hsia Nanguan Opera Scripts (林吳素霞南管戲傳本).”
This year, several outstanding talents were recognized for their contributions to the arts in the realm of traditional music and theater. Cheng Rom-shing (鄭榮興) won Best Traditional Album and Best Album Producer with his work “Sih Shuei Guan (傳聲錄.泗水關).” 1/2 Q Theatre earned the title of Best Play of the Year with “Who’s in The Painting? (青姬).” Tai Chun-fang (戴君芳) was named Best Director for “Tavern by the Lethe: A Lost Actress (孟婆客棧:冥星雙飛俠).”
