Highland Park, NJ — September 6, 2025
“More than 110 members, counselors, families, and friends came together for a day of food, games, and cultural pride.”
The Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors (FASCA) Princeton chapter welcomed the new season with a lively summer barbecue at Donaldson Park in Highland Park, New Jersey. Over 110 members, counselors, families, and friends gathered for an afternoon of food, games, and community bonding. As one of the chapter’s first large in-person gatherings of the year, the event gave participants the chance to reconnect, celebrate, and strengthen ties within the FASCA Princeton community.
The day began with members working together to set up tables, tents, and refreshments. Laughter and excitement quickly filled the air as returning members reunited and newcomers were warmly welcomed. Volunteers manned the grill, transforming the initial haze of smoke into the savory aroma of freshly cooked barbecue that spread across the park.
After preparations, members gathered for an opening session and icebreaker. Divided into small groups, participants were challenged to find something they all had in common, sparking conversation and new friendships. “It was such a fun way to meet people I didn’t know before,” said new member Kyleen Liao. “By the end, I felt like I already had more connections in FASCA.”
The schedule then moved into dance practice, where members rehearsed two performances. Playful moments of embarrassment quickly gave way to camaraderie as students encouraged one another and embraced the challenge. Lunch followed with a spread of popcorn chicken, noodles, rice, spam rice balls, and ice cream. Despite the warm weather causing a few melting mishaps, the treats were enjoyed with plenty of smiles. “The food was amazing,” shared returning member David Chen. “I loved the mix of Taiwanese flavors—it reminded me of family gatherings.”
In the afternoon, spirited matches of Ultimate Frisbee, badminton, and volleyball kept the energy high. The friendly competitions gave students across chapters and age groups another chance to connect and bond.
A major highlight of the day was the 2025–2026 officer elections, where fifteen candidates shared their visions for the year ahead. Their passionate speeches reflected the strong commitment of both new and returning leaders to FASCA’s mission of cultural exchange and community service. Congratulations went to re-elected President Claire Su, along with newly elected Vice Presidents Quincy Kin, Aaron Wang, Jayden Hsu, and Benjamin Tu. Gratitude was also extended to the outgoing board for their dedication and leadership, which set a strong foundation for the future.
Special recognition was given by Nelson Tai, President of the Association of New Jersey Chinese Schools (ANJCS), who thanked members and families for supporting the event. He encouraged students to continue building connections and highlighted FASCA Princeton’s growing impact in the community.
As the barbecue wound down, an unexpected burst of rain forced an early end. Yet rather than dampen spirits, the downpour highlighted the group’s resilience. Members quickly came together to pack up food, move supplies, and clean the area—demonstrating the teamwork and adaptability that define FASCA’s spirit. “The rain didn’t ruin the day at all,” said former Vice President Winston Shih. “If anything, it showed how well we can work together. That’s what makes FASCA special.”
The summer barbecue was more than a social gathering; it was a celebration of friendship, leadership, and Taiwanese cultural pride. With over 110 attendees, the event showcased the strong bonds among FASCA members and families while reaffirming the organization’s mission to promote Taiwan, build community, and empower the next generation of leaders.
