Taipei, Oct. 6 (CNA) This year's National Day projection show will feature the theme "Stay Tuned, Taiwan" to mark the 60th anniversary of the Golden Bell Awards, Taiwan's equivalent of the Emmys, according to the Office of the President.
Presidential Office spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧) said the light show, which will be held Tuesday through Friday in Taipei's Zhongzheng District, will highlight 62 Taiwanese TV dramas and 25 variety shows across six decades of broadcasting.
Kuo said the public event will feature voice performances by Chen Ya-lan (陳亞蘭), the first woman to win a Golden Bell best actor award, and Jennifer Shen (沈春華), who holds the record for the most Golden Bell Awards.
She added that each selected work showcases the "unique appearance of that era, as well as the memories belonging to that period."
Television, she said, not only "tells Taiwan's stories" but also conveys "important information."
Citing coverage of recent disaster relief in Hualien County, Kuo said television news showed "shovel superheroes" who went to Hualien as volunteers to help affected residents clean up their homes.
"Such warm and good behavior, transmitted through television, has produced a cycle of good," she said.
The free public event will run from Tuesday to Friday in Taipei on Ketagalan Blvd. in front of the Office of the President, with nightly performances from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., each lasting about 10 minutes.
Kuo said the opening show on Oct. 7 will begin at 7:30 p.m. due to the lighting ceremony.
