The North Florida Chinese Association (NFCA), a longstanding cultural organization in Tallahassee, Florida, celebrated both its leadership transition and the Mid-Autumn Festival with a joyful community gathering on October 11, 2025. Founded by the late Professor Chang-Chien Lee on September 5, 1976, the NFCA has remained committed to promoting culture, fostering community bonds, and supporting members in North Florida.
This year’s celebration brought together 33 attendees for an evening filled with fellowship, cultural performances, and exciting organizational updates. The event served as both a celebration of the Moon Festival — one of the most important traditional holidays in Chinese culture — and an opportunity to welcome new leadership.
NFCA proudly announced Dr. Hsuan Yuan Huang (Jade) as the newly appointed President for 2025. Dr. Huang is an Associate Professor of Public Relations in the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). She earned her doctoral degree from the University of North Carolina’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media and brings a wealth of experience in communication, leadership, and academic excellence to her new role.
In her opening remarks, President Huang expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the NFCA and emphasized her commitment to expanding the organization's outreach and impact. She introduced the board members who will serve alongside her in the upcoming year: Betty Hsia, Professor Shuyuan Metcalfe, and Conrad Metcalfe, who also presented the Treasurer’s report during the evening.
Each board member took a moment to address the audience, affirming their dedication to the mission of NFCA and their enthusiasm for organizing future community events. The leadership team encouraged attendees to contribute ideas for upcoming programs and activities. Attendees responded with several thoughtful suggestions, which the board plans to evaluate and incorporate into their planning.
In addition to event planning, the board also announced the launch of a new Chinese Movie Lending Library, which will be available exclusively to NFCA members. This initiative aims to promote Chinese cinema and provide members with greater access to cultural resources.
The activity concluded with a Mid-Autumn Talent Show, a lively and heartwarming event that showcased the artistic talents of NFCA members. Performers sang traditional and modern songs, played the guzheng (a traditional Chinese zither), and performed on guitar. The audience responded with warmth and applause, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity.
The event successfully blended cultural tradition with community engagement, reflecting the core values of the NFCA. Members left with a renewed sense of connection and excitement for what lies ahead under the new leadership.
